Instant Death in FoW?
Firstly, what our partied did. We did the first quest, then did wailing lord and gift of griffons at the same time. We then continued on to the army of darkness and into the forge. We proceeded to defend and restore the temple, then back through the cave and onto the beach.
After the beach, we were on our way back to the first area with the shadows and a few of us died. But then, the remaining party members all died as if one of the eternals was killed. Before the leader returned to the outpost, I checked the allies list and saw that the three eternals on the list were all alive and well.
Does anyone have any idea as to what could've been killed that would've caused us to instantly die? I'm thinking the griffons but they sit with Rasitgan and he was at full health. But aside from that I'm not sure what else would cause the instant death.

Depends if you let any enemies live around one of the npcs. If any around the forgemaster, it might have been that. If any around the Temple of Courage, it's possible the Griffins died but never seen that happen. The three eternals at the camp may have been attacked as well (2 don't show up in the ally list).

The eternal in the forge, oddly enough, can be alowed to die and you don't lose. The gryphons, once delivered, I believe, lose their instant death effect because they are no longer yours, and also there are no patrols that go there (that were not cleared out naturally along the way).
Also I think only the big guy at the camp has to live and he is on the list so if anything around him dies he would also take damage, and would be noticable. The forgemaster has an army around him and you clear out all possible Shadow Army people on your way.
With all this said you probably had bad luck, or... the wailing lord got killed by some odd fluke.

There are actually ectos in FoW, but the chance is minute. I have seen maybe 5 drop there... ever.

I'll take my chances in uw except for forge runs I think.
Trying to top my record of a 9 ecto run. Try and try again, eh

Following the "buff" to drops ("" because some do not believe it) I have had several multiple ecto runs in UW. The record was about 30 for the group, I came out with about five. As for soloing UW I have had nothing special :/ But I don't do the monk build so I am being shuned.

For the record, the banshees by the wailing lord can drop ecto.
